EvalNext: AI-Powered Assessment and Feedback Platform
Project Summary
This project proposes the development of a proof-of-concept GenAI-based pedagogical tool designed to transform the creation, management, and evaluation of learning assessments in higher education. The tool, aimed at educators and students, consists of two core components: an Assessment Creation Tool for teachers and a Companion Chatbot for students, leveraging cutting-edge AI models to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
The Assessment Creation Tool empowers educators to streamline the creation of assignments and exams aligned with pedagogical objectives, specific learning goals, and difficulty levels. By integrating GenAI (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.), the tool automates the generation of questions tailored to course content and evaluation schemes. It features an auto-grading engine to evaluate student responses with minimal intervention, providing insightful analytics into class performance and individual learning gaps.
The Companion Chatbot is a student-facing feature that offers personalized feedback on answers, pinpoints errors and suggests strategies for improvement. It facilitates deeper engagement by enabling follow-up discussions on topics and proposing additional questions to strengthen understanding. It ensures a dynamic and supportive learning experience by adapting question difficulty based on student responses.
This project focuses on seamlessly integrating with LMSs such as Moodle, ensuring accessibility and scalability across institutions. Initially, the tool will prioritize structured content areas, such as programming and foundational subjects, to optimize performance and accuracy. Key goals include reducing educators’ workload by automating repetitive tasks, enhancing the quality of assessments through adaptive question generation, and providing students with a tailored, feedback-driven learning environment. The project will contribute to a smarter, more personalized, and efficient education system, empowering both teachers and students.
