Transition and
accessibility
The issue: Accessibility in higher education and successful transitions, a challenge for collaboration and inter-level concerted action
The transition from one level of education to another and access to higher education are two distinct issues, but they share the common goal of educational success, for which collaboration and concerted action are essential. Of course, the preparation of each student is an important factor in making the transition from one stage to the next, persevering and succeeding, but this is only one dimension. Both access to CEGEP or university and the transition from one stage to the next are influenced by a number of factors.
Collaboration and consultation are commonplace within a school or between educational establishments of the same level, though not without difficulties. But such efforts are even more challenging across educational levels. This is why PIM has joined forces with the Trajectoires project, set up by CEGEPs, school boards, the Regroupement des cégeps de Montréal and Réseau réussite Montréal, to help increase the number of high school graduates making a successful transition to college or vocational training. To learn more about the high school to CEGEP transition (called T3, as it is the third transition in a student's educational path), visit this page on the website of Réseau réussite Montréal. Inspired by Trajectoires, PIM has created a CEGEP-university concertation table, known as Table T4.
Aim
The aim of this axis is to deploy high-level cooperation between institutions on the island of Montreal, in order to support actions that promote accessibility to college and university studies, and the fluidity of inter-level transitions and training paths.
Priorities
2025–2026
Through the Table T4, PIM is committed to four work areas:
01 - Transitions for students with disabilities
Carry out phase 2 of the CRISPESH research project on convergences and divergences in inclusive teaching practices in CEGEPs and universities that are members of PIM, and continue the collaboration between the four "pôles régionaux" in Greater Montréal on issues related to consultation and collaboration between CEGEPs and universities on inter-level transitions for students with disabilities.
02 - Essential skills for student success
Prioritise projects rooted in training programmes specific to fields of study or disciplines.
03 - Data culture
Carry out a pilot project to link the dashboard created as part of the Trajectories project with university progression data.
04 - Development and follow-up of joint CEGEP-university projects
Organise a conference-type event to disseminate the deliverables of projects supported by the PIM under the Transition and Accessibility Axis. This event could be combined with another event related to generative AI. Launch a new call for projects, prioritising themes related to the work of Table T4, in particular essential skills and the transition of students with disabilities.
