Using Generative AI for Creating Educational Resources and Supporting Higher Education: A Practical Guide and Training

Project Summary

For the past two years, the Centre de pédagogie universitaire (CPU) at the Université de Montréal has been exploring and implementing various generative AI practices and tools to design educational resources for higher education. At the same time, generative AI is also being used to produce educational resources elsewhere at the Université de Montréal and in other PIM institutions. The aim of this project is to provide teaching staff at PIM member institutions with a set of examples of how generative AI can be used in the production of educational resources, as well as tools (guides, training) for the responsible use of this technology in the production of educational resources.

More specifically, in this project, we propose to:

- List the practices used in the design of teaching materials using generative AI at the University of Montreal;

- List the design practices used in other university and college institutions (3 to 5 institutions);

- To situate these practices in relation to the Teaching Competency Framework recently produced by the CPU in 2024 (publication forthcoming).

- To identify the conditions for success in the production of these resources and present them in a practical guide and training framework (webinar) that can be replicated and adapted by PIM member institutions.
